Composite Cladding FAQs

What is Composite Cladding?

Slatted composite cladding, also known as WPC cladding (Wood Plastic Composite), is a modern, low-maintenance alternative to traditional timber wall cladding. Our second-generation composite cladding is manufactured from a blend of recycled wood fibres sourced from post-industrial pulp and high-quality PE (polyethylene) plastics, with each board protected by our advanced Alphashield™ outer capping.

Alphashield™ provides enhanced protection against moisture, staining, fading and UV exposure, helping the cladding retain its colour and appearance for longer while requiring minimal maintenance. The realistic woodgrain finish and contemporary slatted profile recreate the warmth and character of natural timber while adding depth, texture and a modern architectural finish to exterior walls, garden rooms, extensions and outdoor living spaces.

Unlike traditional timber cladding, Alphashield™ capped composite cladding will not rot or splinter and does not require yearly painting, staining or sealing, making it a durable, low-maintenance and more sustainable choice for modern exterior projects.

What are the benefits of composite fencing?

Alpha Decking’s second-generation Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) cladding offers the natural look of timber without the ongoing maintenance associated with traditional wood cladding. There’s no need for regular painting, staining or sealing, helping you save both time and maintenance costs year after year.

Our Slatted Composite Cladding is manufactured using recycled wood fibres and recycled plastic, with each board protected by our advanced Alphashield™ outer capping. This protective layer provides enhanced resistance against moisture, staining, fading and UV exposure, helping your cladding retain its colour and appearance for longer.

Unlike traditional timber, composite cladding will not rot or splinter and is designed to withstand year-round exposure to the British weather. Its contemporary slatted profile and realistic woodgrain finish also provide the warmth and character of timber with a cleaner, more modern architectural appearance.

While capped composite cladding can have a higher initial cost than traditional timber, its long lifespan and minimal maintenance requirements can save considerable time and money over the lifetime of your installation.

Can composite cladding boards be cut to size?

Yes, it can. Our Slatted Composite Cladding can be cut to the required size using standard woodworking tools, making it easy to tailor boards around corners, openings and other features during installation.

For the cleanest finish, we recommend using a fine-tooth blade suitable for composite or timber materials and following the installation guidance when cutting and fixing the boards.

Is composite fencing more expensive than timber fencing?

While the initial cost of composite cladding can be higher than traditional timber, the long-term maintenance savings can make it a more cost-effective choice over its lifetime. There’s no need for regular painting, staining or sealing, helping to reduce both ongoing maintenance costs and the time spent looking after your exterior.

Our second-generation Slatted Composite Cladding is also protected by our durable Alphashield™ outer capping and comes with a 15-year warranty, giving you added confidence in the long-term performance of your installation.

What does Alpha Decking's warranty on composite fencing cover?

Alpha Decking's up to 15-year warranty protects our Slatted Composite Cladding against warping, cracking, splitting, rotting and fungal decay caused by manufacturing defects, when subject to normal use and installed correctly in accordance with our installation guidelines.

You can find more information, including the full terms and conditions, in our Composite Cladding Warranty.

How do I install composite cladding?

Our Slatted Composite Cladding is designed for straightforward installation onto a suitable, secure subframe or batten system. Our composite joists can be used here. The cladding boards are installed using the recommended fixings, allowing each board to align neatly with the next to create a consistent slatted finish across the wall.

Boards can be cut to size using standard woodworking tools, making it easy to work around corners, windows, doors and other features. Matching corner trims can then be used where required to create a clean, professional finish around edges and transitions. For the best results and to ensure your 15-year warranty remains valid, your Slatted Composite Cladding should always be installed in accordance with Alpha Decking's installation guidelines.
